Prof. Indira Krishna, an eminent soul, an educator, a towering personality and a dedicated social worker who lived for the upliftment of society, especially women and children.
She was born on 7 Dec 1935, to a pious couple Sri. D.R. Channegowda and Smt. Kausalya Devi. She was an energetic and bright child, who possessed great leadership qualities.
As a child, she was greatly influenced by Ramakrishna Mission and its saints. At the young age of 29, under the guidance of her Guru, Swami Yathiswaranandaji, (i)she founded Sri Sharada Sevika Mandali Trust, which has provided hostel for working women, students and elderly ladies (ii) Sharada Shishu Kendra, a mid-day meal centre for children (iii) Padmabhushana Yashodhara Dasappa Vocational Training Centre for women, and (iv) Sharada Mandira – Spiritual Center.
Later, Prof. Indira Krishna & (A. Anasuya) along with their friends founded Nivedita School in Gavipuram, Bengaluru. After her marriage to Shri M.L. Krishna and moving to Vasanthpura, Bengaluru she was instrumental in creating its branch here with the objective of educating rural children around the locality.
Prof. Indira Krishna worked as a professor and principal of VHD Home Science College, served in various government posts and retired as the Additional Director of Collegiate Education, Bengaluru. She has been a guide to numerous students of M.Sc., M.Phil., and Ph.D. successfully.
